ST. THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands A former government official in the U.S. Virgin Islands facing fraud and tax evasion charges must now contend with new unrelated allegations of corruption. <\/p>\n
The Justice Department says it has indicted Louis \"Lolo\" Willis on bribery and extortion charges stemming from the nearly three years he was executive director of the Virgin Islands Legislature. The indictment unsealed Thursday accuses him of using the appointed position to extract payments from contractors working on renovations of the Legislature building. <\/p>\n
Willis was charged in February with fraud and tax evasion in an unrelated local case stemming from an earlier stint as executive director of the Internal Revenue Bureau. He pleaded not guilty in that still-pending earlier case. <\/p>\n
Defense attorney Treston Moore said he has not seen the new indictment and declined comment. <\/p>\n
