The man who was shot and killed by Medicine Hat police after pointing a firearm at an officer has been identified as Christopher Arkell. <\/p>\n
Arkell, 50, is considered a person of interest in the death of Chester Hunchak, 67, whose body was discovered on a rural property just outside Medicine Hat where the fatal shooting took place Saturday afternoon. <\/p>\n
Hunchak, who operated a second-hand-vehicle dealership in Medicine Hat, went missing Friday after accompanying a prospective customer on a test drive. His girlfriend reported the disappearance to Medicine Hat police that evening. <\/p>\n
The investigation led a police officer to Hunchaks black Cadillac Escalade, spotted on a rural property near Range Road 60 where Arkell lived. <\/p>\n
Arkell allegedly came out of the home and pointed a firearm at the officer, who retreated to his vehicle. <\/p>\n
RCMP and Medicine Hat officers made contact with Arkell by telephone and he threatened to shoot officers. <\/p>\n
Arkell was seen dragging Hunchaks body from behind the house into view, RCMP said, before taking a firearm and driving towards police. <\/p>\n
He was shot and killed as he tried to leave. <\/p>\n
Rob Storie worked alongside Arkell on the board of the Medicine Hat BMX group several years ago, and had stayed in touch with him. <\/p>\n
It kind of blew me away when I found out, Storie said of Arkells involvement in the tragedy. <\/p>\n
