Astronomy Update is a monthly column provided by the Chippewa Valley Astronomical Society, Hobbs Observatory and the L.E. Phillips Planetarium and compiled by Lauren Likkel of the UW-Eau Claire physics and astronomy department. <\/p>\n

The supernova 2014J is marked in this image of galaxy M82. The supernova is so luminous that even though it is 11 million light years away, it looks as bright as the nearby stars in this image. <\/p>\n
L.E. Phillips Planetarium <\/p>\n
The planetarium at UW-Eau Claire has 60-minute public shows at 7 p.m. Tuesdays and childrens shows at 11 a.m. Saturdays. <\/p>\n
This months Tuesday show is The Top Ten Celestial Objects. The childrens show, aimed at ages 4 to 9, is Larry Cat in Space. <\/p>\n

Free parking is available on campus after 3 p.m. and on weekends. <\/p>\n
