JERUSALEM, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. debuted its Super Heron UAV at the 2014 Singapore Airshow. <\/p>\n
IAI unveiled the medium-altitude long endurance (MALE) Super Heron UAV Tuesday, Globes business newspaper reported. <\/p>\n
Under secret development for years, the MALE Super Heron UAV has a 55-foot wingspan, maximum payload weight of 992 lbs. and a takeoff weight of 3,200 lbs. <\/p>\n
The MALE Super Heron UAV uses a 200-horsepower diesel engine and advanced motor that enables it to fly at more than 173 mph and gives it a faster rate of climb. <\/p>\n
\"The new UAV's improved engine gives it a somewhat bigger and heftier look than the other Herons,\" IAI Chief Executive Officer Joseph Weiss said. <\/p>\n
\"The Super Heron greatly expands the mission capabilities of UAVs,\" he said. \"Its development reflects our continuous investment in UAVs and advanced technologies. We previously identified this sector as a key growth engine for the company.\" <\/p>\n
