Reviewers approved 25 applications. <\/p><p>The following appeals in the biology round were approved:<\/p><ul><li>$1.3 million,&nbsp;<b>Deborah Lieu<\/b> of <b>UC Davis<\/b>. (Review summary <a href=\"http:\/\/cirm.ca.gov\/ReviewSummary_RB4-05764\">here<\/a>, appeal <a href=\"http:\/\/cirm.ca.gov\/files\/meetings\/pdf\/2012\/090512_item_12_5764.pdf\">here<\/a>.) 764<\/li><li>$1.4 million, <b>Yanhong Shi<\/b> &nbsp;of the <b>City of Hope<\/b>. (See review summary <a href=\"http:\/\/cirm.ca.gov\/ReviewSummary_RB4-06277\">here<\/a> and appeal <a href=\"http:\/\/cirm.ca.gov\/files\/meetings\/pdf\/2012\/090512_item_12_6277.pdf\">here<\/a>.)<\/li><\/ul><p>The board also approved <b>another application <\/b>that was rejected by reviewers based on a recommendation by <b>CIRM<\/b> President <b>Alan Trounson.<\/b>&nbsp; It is very unusual for the board to approve rejected applications based on staff recommendations following a review. Trounson described the grant addressed a major bottleneck in stem cell science.<\/p><p>&nbsp;The California stem cell agency is expected to post a press release shortly with the names of all recipients.
