Leaving is <b>David Serrano Sewell<\/b>, who has been<br>named to the <b>state Medical Board <\/b>by Gov. <b>Jerry Brown<\/b>. Reappointed is<br><b>Jeff Sheehy,<\/b> an HIV\/AIDs patient advocate who may be the most public face<br>of patient advocates on the stem cell agency.<\/div><div><\/div><div><table cellpadding=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\"><tbody><tr><td><a href=\"http:\/\/www.longevitymedicine.tv\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-o-matic\/cache\/dcd23_duliege.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/www.longevitymedicine.tv\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-o-matic\/cache\/dcd23_duliege.jpg\" style=\"padding-left:10px; padding-right: 10px;\"><\/a><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Anne-Marie Duliege<br>Affymax Photo<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><p>State Controller <b>John Chiang <\/b>appointed<br>Duliege to the <b>CIRM<\/b> post, <a href=\"http:\/\/cirm.ca.gov\/PressRelease_2012-08-23\">saying<\/a>,&nbsp;<\/p><\/div><blockquote><p>&ldquo;Dr. Duliege brings<br>first-hand knowledge of what is required to take a drug from research<br>phase through FDA approval.&rdquo;<\/p><\/blockquote><div>In May, <a href=\"http:\/\/investing.businessweek.com\/research\/stocks\/people\/person.asp?personId=11001178&amp;ticker=AFFY\">Duliege<\/a> made a presentation to<br>the <b>Bioscience Forum<\/b> in South San Francisco called &ldquo;Beating the<br>Odds,&rdquo; a discussion of Affymax's first commercial product.<br><a href=\"http:\/\/audreysnetwork.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/05\/audreyspicksmay27-2012.pdf\">According to information<\/a> posted by the group, Duliege led the way by<br>shepherding it through a 10-month gauntlet at the <b>FDA<\/b>.<\/div><div><\/div><div>Duliege has been with Affymax since<br>2007. Her prior positions included time at <b>Chiron<\/b> and <b>Genentech<\/b>. She<br>is a practicing physician, working part-time, and received her<br>medical degree from <b>Paris Medical School.<\/b><\/div><div><\/div><div>Affymax has had a previous tie to the<br>stem cell agency. <b>Ted Love<\/b>, one of the initial members of the CIRM board, also <a href=\"http:\/\/www.affymax.com\/about-us\/board-of-directors\">sits on the Affymax board <\/a>of directors. Indeed, Duliege fills the seat<br>vacated by Love when he resigned from the CIRM board. The position must be<br>filled by an officer of a California life science company. &nbsp;<\/div><div><\/div><div><table cellpadding=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\"><tbody><tr><td><a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-DpWxvTHnFb0\/UEK25vKdfAI\/AAAAAAAAB3Q\/QTkmhj-a2WM\/s1600\/SERANNO_SEWELL+cirm+photo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"200\" src=\"http:\/\/www.longevitymedicine.tv\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-o-matic\/cache\/dcd23_SERANNO_SEWELL+cirm+photo.jpg\" width=\"152\" style=\"padding-left:10px; padding-right: 10px;\"><\/a><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>David Serrano Sewell<br>CIRM Photo<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cirm.ca.gov\/Board_David_SerranoSewell\">Serrano Sewell,<\/a> who has also served on<br>the CIRM board since its inception, is apparently resigning to accept<br><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gov.ca.gov\/news.php?id=17697\">an appointment to the board<\/a> that regulates<br>California physicians. Apparently &ndash; because the stem cell agency<br>has not confirmed that he is leaving, although this morning it  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cirm.ca.gov\/proposed-additional-agenda-item-90612\">placed a resolution honoring him<\/a> on the agenda for next week's meeting. &nbsp;That almost invariably means a board member is departing.<\/p><\/div><div><\/div><div>Serrano Sewell, an attorney for the<br>city of San Francisco, was one of 10 patient advocate members on the<br>29-member board. Sewell was apppointed by the California lieutenant<br>governor. His seat will remain vacant until the current lieutenant<br>governor, <b>Gavin Newsom<\/b>, makes an appointment, who must also be a patient advocate.<\/div><div><\/div><div><table cellpadding=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\"><tbody><tr><td><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-HYCxZA3svD4\/UEK254sk_XI\/AAAAAAAAB3Y\/TzIzKuxEpu0\/s1600\/SHEEHY+cirm+photo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"200\" src=\"http:\/\/www.longevitymedicine.tv\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-o-matic\/cache\/92cbc_SHEEHY+cirm+photo.jpg\" width=\"140\" style=\"padding-left:10px; padding-right: 10px;\"><\/a><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Jeff Sheehy<br>CIRM Photo<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cirm.ca.gov\/Board_Jeff_Sheehy\">Sheehy<\/a> was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cirm.ca.gov\/PressRelease_2012-08-28\">reappointed<\/a> recently by<br>state Senate President Pro Tem <b>Darrell Steinberg<\/b>. Sheehy is a<br>communications manager at <b>UC San Francisco<\/b> and a nationally known<br>HIV\/AIDS advocate. He is co-chairman of CIRM's <b>Science Subcommittee<\/b><br>and vice chairman of the grants review group. Sheehy leads the<br>discussion of grant applications when they come before the full board<br>in public session.<\/p><\/div><div><\/div><div>With the latest shuffling,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cirm.ca.gov\/our-board-meetings\/governing-board\/icoc\/governing-boardicoc-cirm\"> the board<\/a>&nbsp;has essentially lost its only African-American member &ndash; Ted Love.<br><b>Eugene Washington<\/b>, dean of the <b>UCLA<\/b> medical school, is a member of<br>the board but never attends the meetings. Instead he sends a<br>surrogate. Serrano Sewell's departure brings the number of Hispanics<br>to three, co-vice chairman <b>Art Torres, Francisco Prieto<\/b> and <b>Marcy<br>Feit<\/b>.
