Douglas Boyd<\/b>,<br>noted that his proposal was given a scientific score of 67, which was<br>one point below the cutoff for most grants approved by <b>CIRM's<br>Grants Working Group<\/b>.  Thirteen grants fell in the 68 to 53<br>range, including Boyd's. Reviewers approved four in that range,<br>including two with scores of 53.<\/div><div><\/div><div><a href=\"http:\/\/cirm.ca.gov\/files\/meetings\/pdf\/2012\/052412_item_7_5626.pdf\">Boyd's letter <\/a>was brief, focusing on a<br>letter of support from an Indiana firm, <b>Cook Biotech, Inc.<\/b>,<br>that would supply the \"material and technical expertise to<br>create a new bioengineered cardiac patch<\/div><div>material.\"<\/div><div><\/div><div>The appeal letter, along with other<br>appeals(see <a href=\"http:\/\/californiastemcellreport.blogspot.com\/2012\/05\/burnhams-lipton-appeals-rejection-of-5.html\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/californiastemcellreport.blogspot.com\/2012\/05\/san-diego-biotech-firm-appeals.html\">here<\/a>), will be given to CIRM directors in <a href=\"http:\/\/cirm.ca.gov\/Agenda_2012-05-24\/icocgoverning-board\">the agenda material<\/a> for their meeting tomorrow in San Francisco.  The<br>board does not have to act on the petitions or discuss them.<br>Researchers can also appear before the board to make a case.<\/div><div><b><br><\/b><\/div><div><b>Claire Pomeroy<\/b>, CEO of the <b>UC<br>Davis Health<\/b> <b>Systems<\/b>, is a member of the CIRM board.
