As Street Anatomy goes up against Skull-A-Day<\/a> in a friendly competition\/co-curation of our upcoming gallery show, FACE OFF—Skull Appreciation Day 2013<\/a>, I want to give you guys a preview of the fabulous artists that Skull-A-Day is bringing to Chicago!<\/p>

Joshua Harker<\/strong><\/h2>

\"FACE<\/a><\/p>

Chicago-based artist, sculptor, scribbler, and much more, Joshua Harker<\/a> is considered a pioneer & visionary in 3D printed art & sculpture. His 3D Crania Anatomica Filigre skull sculpture became the 3rd largest funded Arts project on Kickstarter back in 2011. Since then he’s been creating the unmakeable in 3D.<\/p>

Meyoko<\/h2>

\"Meyoko<\/a><\/p>

Berlin-based Melissa Murillo, aka Meyoko<\/a>, creates beautifully intricate illustrations in an Art Nouveau style created entirely with a fountain pen, Black China ink and more recently Gold. “Meyoko fearlessly attempts to dissect the depths of human nature itself and she does it with surgical precision<\/em>.”<\/p>

Rob Tarbell<\/h2>

\"Rob<\/a><\/p>

Virginia-based artist Rob Tarbell<\/a> creates art by capturing smoke on paper. The result is a beauty that is transcendently eerie in nature. “During the process, credit cards, grocery cards, gift cards, photos, and 35mm slides of my artwork are burned to remove their growing presence in daily life, an ironic nod to a self-help technique of burning sentimental things to remove their emotional burden.<\/em>”<\/p>

Mike Egan<\/h2>

\"Mike<\/a><\/p>

Mike Egan<\/a>, is a Pittsburgh based artist who has spent time working as an embalmer in funeral homes. His paintings are made using acrylic paint, shellac, wood and nails and tell stories about death, devils and saints. “I’m greatly influenced by The Day of the Dead, Halloween, horror films, churches, The German Expressionists and my time in funeral homes.<\/em>”<\/p>

Skulluxe<\/h2>

\"The<\/a><\/p>

Toronto artist, Dan Springer, aka Skulluxe<\/a>, draws a lot<\/em> of skulls. His quirky cartoon style makes us giggle at the memento mori symbolism of the skull.<\/p>

Skull-A-Day and Street Anatomy have joined forces to bring together the greatest collection of skull art, to celebrate the 3rd<\/sup> Annual Skull Appreciation Day.<\/p>

Come see the art and the awesome Museum of Surgical Science which will be free all night long! Wine, beer, and anatomical food will be served throughout the evening, plus a DJ will be spinning in the Hall of Immortals. We are also having an audience participation portion where you will be able to create your own skull art during the night!<\/p>
