The answer requires a better understanding of the normal ageing process and the molecular pathology underlying these rare diseases. Exciting recent findings regarding a severe human progeria, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hutchinson-Gilford_progeria_syndrome\">Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome<\/a>, have implicated molecular changes that are also linked to normal ageing, such as <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/DNA_damage\">genome instability<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fightaging.org\/archives\/2008\/05\/on-the-erosion-of-telomeres.php\">telomere attrition<\/a>, premature <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Senescence\">senescence<\/a> and defective stem cell homeostasis in disease development.
