{"id":1041987,"date":"2012-04-08T15:45:27","date_gmt":"2012-04-08T15:45:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.immortalitymedicine.tv\/longevity-medicine\/more-visceral-fat-means-more-inflammation.php"},"modified":"2024-08-17T16:53:26","modified_gmt":"2024-08-17T20:53:26","slug":"more-visceral-fat-means-more-inflammation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.euvolution.com\/futurist-transhuman-news-blog\/longevity-medicine\/more-visceral-fat-means-more-inflammation.php","title":{"rendered":"More Visceral Fat Means More Inflammation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yet another study showing a correlation between <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fightaging.org\/archives\/2010\/08\/more-evidence-for-the-costs-of-visceral-fat.php\">chronic inflammation and abdominal fat<\/a>: &#8220;Obesity-related increases in multiple inflammatory markers may contribute to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fightaging.org\/archives\/2008\/02\/inflammation-and-the-damage-of-aging.php\">persistent subclinical inflammation common with advancing age<\/a>. &#8230; We used factor analysis to identify inflammatory factor(s) and examine their associations with adiposity in older adults at risk for disability. &#8230; [Inflammatory markers] were measured in 179 participants from the <a href=\"http:\/\/clinicaltrials.gov\/ct2\/show\/NCT00116194\">Lifestyle Interventions and Independence for Elders Pilot<\/a> (Mean \u00b1 SD age 77 \u00b1 4 years, 76% white, 70% women). <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Body_mass_index\">Body mass index<\/a>, waist circumference, and total fat mass were assessed by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Anthropometry\">anthropometry<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dual-energy_X-ray_absorptiometry\">dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry<\/a>. &#8230; Greater total and abdominal adiposity are associated with higher levels of an inflammatory factor related to <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/C-reactive_protein\">CRP<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Interleukin_1_receptor_antagonist\">IL-1ra<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Interleukin_6\">IL-6<\/a> in older adults, which may provide a clinically useful measure of inflammation in this population. &#8230; [The associations were determined] after adjusting for age, gender, race\/ethnicity, site, smoking, anti-inflammatory medications, comorbidity index, health-related quality of life, and physical function.
