Researchers at the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (IBN) have developed a miniaturised biochip to investigate the effect of drugs on cancer stem cells. <\/p>\n
The miniaturised biological assay, dubbed the Droplet Array and developed by a team of researchers led by IBN executive director, Professor Jackie Y. Ying, will make it easier for drug screenings using limited samples. <\/p>\n
The new technology could boost the development of more effective cancer drugs, according to a statement released by IBN. <\/p>\n
In a tumour, cancer stem cells form a small and distinct class of cancer cells that are more resistant to chemotherapy. They can produce and differentiate into different cell types. If they are not eradicated, they can cause cancer to recur. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n
