{"id":1035699,"date":"2012-02-24T07:00:45","date_gmt":"2012-02-24T07:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.immortalitymedicine.tv\/uncategorized\/human-enzyme-lengthens-mouse-life.php"},"modified":"2024-08-17T15:49:20","modified_gmt":"2024-08-17T19:49:20","slug":"human-enzyme-lengthens-mouse-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.euvolution.com\/futurist-transhuman-news-blog\/human-genetic-engineering\/human-enzyme-lengthens-mouse-life.php","title":{"rendered":"Human enzyme lengthens mouse life"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><p class=\"first\">      London, Feb 23 (ANI): In a new study, scientists have found      that an enzyme found in humans appears to lengthen the life      of mice.    <\/p>\n<p>      Mammals have seven types of enzyme called sirtuin.    <\/p>\n<p>      Haim Cohen and Yariv Kanfi at Bar-Ilan University      in Ramat Gan,      Israel, looked to sirtuin 6 for their study, New      Scientist reported.    <\/p>\n<p>      They compared mice genetically engineered to have increased      levels of SIRT6 with normal mice, engineering the mice in two      different ways to control for genetic influences.    <\/p>\n<p>      Male mice from both strains lived 15 per cent longer than      normal mice or females.    <\/p>\n<p>      But SIRT6 didn&#039;t affect females&#039; life span.    <\/p>\n<p>      Older modified male mice metabolised sugar faster      than normal mice and females, suggesting that SIRT6 might      extend life by protecting against metabolic disorders such as      diabetes.    <\/p>\n<p>      The researchers could not explain why SIRT6 didn&#039;t affect      females, but suggest it may be related to differences in      genes that regulate ageing in males and females.
