Liberty Property Trust Announces $155 Million Investment In Industrial Acquisitions In Fourth Quarter

MALVERN, Pa., Dec. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Liberty Property Trust has announced that it has closed on the acquisition of 19 industrial buildings totaling three million square feet for $155 million thus far during the fourth quarter.

The properties consist of 12 properties in Tampa, FL, totaling 1.2 million square feet; two buildings in suburban Chicago, IL totaling 1.2 million square feet; three properties in Charlotte, NC totaling 376,000 square feet; and two buildings in Shakopee, MN totaling 282,000 square feet. The properties are 96% leased.

Liberty's chief investment officer, Mike Hagan, commented, "Liberty continues to increase our industrial footprint with selective acquisitions in our targeted industrial markets. We anticipate an additional $18 million investment in industrial acquisitions by year-end, increasing Liberty's industrial holdings to 48 million square feet."

About the Company

Liberty Property Trust (LRY) is a leader in commercial real estate, serving customers in the United States and United Kingdom, through the development, acquisition, ownership and management of superior office and industrial properties. Liberty's 81 million square foot portfolio consists of more than 650 properties providing office, distribution and light manufacturing facilities to 1,800 tenants.

Liberty Media in Neutral Zone

We reiterate our long-term Neutral recommendation on Liberty Media Corp. (LMCA) following its mixed third-quarter 2012 results. The stock price soared neraly 54% in the last year and is currently trading at significant high multiples compared with S&P 500 and its peers with respect to several valuation metrics. We believe Liberty Media is fairly valued.

The companys decision to spin-off Starz LLC segment will enable it to raise its stake in SIRIUS XM Radio Inc. (SIRI), Barnes & Noble Inc. (BKS), and Live Nation Entertainment Inc. (LYV). We believe SIRIUS XM Radio will be the key player in the companys growth story based on growing auto industry sales. Liberty Media is targeting full control of SIRIUS XM Radio. Moreover, management is pursuing a systematic share buy-back program to boost shareholders wealth. In November 2011, the company invested in Barnes & Noble, which we believe will benefit Liberty Media particularly under a volatile economic situation.

Liberty Media has decided to spin-off its Starz Entertainment segment as a separate entity by the end of 2012 or in early 2013. According to management, this move will unlock the latters value by optimizing its capital structure and enabling Starz to find several alternative ways and partnerships for both content creation and distribution. At the end of the third quarter, total subscribers base of Starz increased 9% to 20.8 million while its sister TV channel Encore had 34.3 million subscribers, up 5% year over year. The spin-off is envisioned to provide a cash dividend of $1.8 billion to Liberty Media.

Superstorm Sandy shuts Statue of Liberty, but symbolism endures

When ABC News visited the Statue of Liberty in late October to see a renovation that had closed it for a year, no one could have predicted that would be one of the last looks anyone would have for a while at the great landmark. Just 48 hours later, Superstorm Sandy hit the East Coast and one of its casualties was Liberty Island. Though Lady Liberty herself was spared, the storms floodwaters reached the base of the statue. The storm surge tore up walkways, separated the seawall from the island, and buckled the pier where visitors arrive. The emergency dock for evacuation sustained even more damage. Liberty Islands power system was shot. The basement where the utilities were housed was flooded by 8 feet of water and a backup generator was destroyed. The islands sole residents are David Luchsinger and his wife Debbie. He is a superintendent with the National Park Service and oversees Liberty Island and nearby Ellis Island. With more than 3 million visitors annually to the Statue of Liberty, the holiday season is the only time that Luchsinger and his wife pretty much have the island to themselves. The statue is open every day but Christmas Day, said Luchsinger. So on Christmas Day, theres no boats, theres no staff, nothing until the 26th of December. So its just Debbie and I and the security team, he said. We celebrate here on the island. On Christmas Day, its very quiet in the harbor. Theres no boats coming in, and to come out here and hear the bells on the buoys in the harbor is just phenomenal. Its really magical, said Luchsinger. But this Christmas will be different. Sandys storm surge flooded the superintendents home. It was completely trashed, said Luchsinger. The furniture, all of my appliances, everything, were just strewn all over the place. Luchsinger and his wife moved to a private home in New Jersey, and he continues to work from his office on Ellis Island, which sustained minor water damage. Repairs to Liberty Island began within the first few days after the storm. But the Park Service says the island will not open for the rest of the year and has no projected date for next year. Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced that the cleanup and repairs will cost $59 million. He also said that a phased reopening of the site may be possible next year. The new renovations would have allowed an additional 26,000 people to visit the Statue of Libertys crown every year. But for now, no tour boats are landing. The island remains empty for the foreseeable future. But its symbolism endures. Half of our visitors are from overseas, said Luchsinger. And to see people from all walks of life come here, the various emotions that take place here, from pure giddiness and excitement to people actually standing out there and crying, looking up at her. You realize that shes not only our statue, shes everybodys statue. She symbolizes liberty and freedom for everybody. And now, the Statue of Liberty serves as the unintentional symbol of something else of the storm that devastated much of the East Coast, and of the resiliency of so many in face of the face of such loss. A poem by Emma Lazarus is inscribed on a plaque in the pedestal of the statue, and invites other countries to send your tired, your poor the homeless, tempest-tost. It now seems all too appropriate.

Joan Kennedy Taylor: Pornography Versus Censorship – Video

Joan Kennedy Taylor: Pornography Versus Censorship
Joan Kennedy Taylor was a journalist, author, and political activist known for her advocacy of individualist feminism and her role in developing the modern American libertarian movement. She passed away in 2005. In this video from a Free Press Association conference in 1986, Taylor debates herself on pornography, obscenity, and censorship. She offers arguments for both sides and covers feminist interpretations of pornography, the protections afforded to free speech thanks to the First Amendment, and the history of the Supreme Court #39;s attempt to pin down the definition of "obscenity." Lonely Landlord Accompaniment – Video

Lonely Landlord Accompaniment
"God Help the Lonely Landlord" is a song from the libertarian musical "The Debt Collector". The music is by Daniel Carter. The piano accompaniment is by Jill Dabney. The words that you can sing to this song are by Aya Katz: God help the lonely landlord Who gives the poor a home They judge me by their standards But I am all alone. It #39;s true that I #39;m an owner But just what do I own? When the rent is due They owe me, but I still pay the loan. You see, there is a mortgage, And taxes are assessed. And the tenants are so horrid. When they leave, Who cleans the mess? But who am I to judge them And the things they choose to do Copyright 2012 Carter, Katz and Dabney All rights reservedFrom:AyaKatzViews:0 0ratingsTime:01:16More inEducation
