AnsibleFest spotlights new innovations in IT automation and why OpsDev is the new software operating model – SiliconANGLE News

Posted: at 2:43 pm

As the open-source computing tide rose, Ansible which exists under the Red Hat Inc. umbrella was one of the prominent boats lifted.

Now, as the project notches its 10-year milestone, it has made several announcements toward better integration into the existing cloud-native paradigm.

I think youre gonna see a lot more of this automation at scale, said John Furrier, analyst at theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Medias livestreaming studio. I love the introduction ofoperations as code; thats a little piggyback off of infrastructure as code and infrastructure asconfiguration. Theyre saying operations now is the new softwaremodel and its like OpsDev, not DevOps.

As part of a day 1 keynote analysis during this weeksAnsibleFest event, Furrier and co-hostLisa Martin, industry analyst at theCUBE, dissected the keynote for signals on the projects forward direction and new innovations in IT automation.(* Disclosure below.)

Much of the day 1 keynote content focused on cultural shifts within the enterprise, as well as how Ansibles automation technology is adjusting to them. Thekey takeawayfocused onconfiguration and automationaround devices and infrastructure stuff is an enterprise architecture now, according to Furrier.

Its not just a kind of a corner case or a specific use case, he added. Its gonna be native across the entire enterprise architecture. And thats why we heard a lotof cultural shift conversations.

Part of that cultural shift, as Ansible stressed in the keynote, is the organizational onus of rethinking the approach to automation, where it transcends being putin silos and pockets, according to Martin. Automation, therefore, needs to become strategic across an organization.

Ansible can sit across all the environments and then still support the cloud-native through an automation loop, Furrier stated. Thats going to really talk to what were seeing as multicloud or supercloud, where Ansibles role of automating isnt just corner case in the enterprise.

Heres the complete video interview, part of SiliconANGLEs and theCUBEs coverage of the AnsibleFest event:

Clearer Visibility Across Network, Cloud, and Mobile Assets Can Produce Smarter Decision-Making; Help Overcome Speed Bumps

INDIANAPOLIS, October 19, 2022--(BUSINESS WIRE)--With the threat of a recession looming, a new study commissioned by Tangoe, Inc., the leading technology expense and asset management solution for more than 20 years, finds that nearly all (92%) of IT leaders are concerned with the potential impact on their budgets and headcounts just as 83% report growing pressure to deliver more with less.

"With cost-cutting measures well underway across organizations of all sizes, having smarter data insights can be helpful in guiding better decision-making and superior optimization," said James Parker, CEO, Tangoe. "Already short-staffed IT teams should be employing more artificial intelligence to automate and understand the expenses and sprawling network, cloud, and mobile assets across their hybrid workforces. Getting beneath the surface can uncover new opportunities for cost savings before even considering layoffs."

The survey conducted in partnership with leading independent technology market research firm Vanson Bourne and featuring insights from 500 IT leaders at mid-sized to enterprise-level businesses ($500M-$50B+ in annual revenue) across the US and UK also found that:

IT teams are being bogged down by manual processes: Nearly all respondents (94%) reported a notable amount of time of their average working week is dedicated to activities related to telecom, cloud, and mobility assets, including nearly a third of their week (29%) being allocated specifically to manual processes relating to these expenses and assets. This led to more than eight in ten (85%) reporting that eliminating manual processes would allow IT to focus on more purposeful work.

Organizations feel stuck in the cycle of embedded internal processes: More than half of those surveyed report choosing to have at least some in-house management of their mobile, telecom and cloud software services (56%, 51%, and 51%, respectively), but almost nine in ten (88%) admit that their organization would benefit from greater support with managing such expenses. For organizations that manage these expenses completely in-house, those that report there would be benefits from working with external vendors notably increase (88% for telecom, 82% for cloud, and 77% for mobile).

There are no signs of slowing for IT teams: Budgets allocated to cloud, mobile and telecom are expected to increase by an average of 10-12% over the next couple of years, showing the continued growth and importance of these software and services. Mobile device count (78%) and usage (83%) are also expected to increase; greater use comes with more management, making it even more important that organizations approach this in the right way.

Story continues

Parker continued: "Our research found that only companies who rely on a partner to simplify, manage, and optimize their assets and expenses are realizing the value. Working together with our clients, we are helping them make the most informed choices to ride current and future economic waves with finesse. Layoffs can be a last resort for cost-cutting, and then only after assessing the true costs of running todays tech-enabled business."

As businesses look to simplify, manage, and optimize their IT operations and spend, nearly all (99%) organizations recognize benefits from outsourcing telecom, cloud and mobile software and services. Furthermore, more than nine in 10 respondents that work with external vendors for mobile, cloud, and telecom management report seeing a clear, positive return on investment (95%, 92% and 91%, respectively).

Posted: at 2:43 pm

HONG KONG--(BUSINESS WIRE)--UiPath (NYSE: PATH), a leading enterprise automation software company, today announced that Lenovo has achieved significant productivity and efficiency gains from implementing UiPath automation technologies globally.

Lenovo embarked on an enterprise-wide digital transformation with their 3S strategySmart IoT, Smart Infrastructure, and Smart Verticalsfor industries. The successful digital transformation by Lenovo Group IT was attributed to the strong integration and application of enterprise automation, AI, and machine learning, as well as other integration technologies.

As a global technology powerhouse, Lenovo provides millions of intelligent devices to users all around the world. As the organization expands into new areas of infrastructure, mobile, solutions and services, enterprise-wide automation has become an important goal. To support this, Lenovos Global IT team has identified and implemented new digital transformation initiatives across the departments of finance, human resources (HR), and internal audit.

Given the evolving needs of the workforce as the organization grows, Lenovos Global IT team realized the potential for enterprise automation to streamline workflows, improve accuracy, and allow employees to focus on more value-added tasks.

To support the implementation of enterprise-wide automation, Lenovos Global IT team has successfully built automation processes across multiple workflows, enabling the global HR team to support and maximize business resources.

Business efficiency and process optimization through RPA

Managing a large workforce has led to high workloads for the Global HR team, which has to grapple with multiple tedious, repetitive, and time-consuming processes every month. As such, Lenovos Global IT team identified personal income tax declaration, expenses reimbursement, and payroll calculation as critical areas where automation would have a transformative effect by deploying software robots.

As a start, Lenovo built a Tax Declaration Robot that can automatically downloads data, generates individual income tax files, performs income tax declarations and data verification, and automatically reruns when an exception occurs.

Robots have also been built to enable highly visualized, structured, and digitalized payroll calculation processes, which facilitates the tracking of employee attendance in an efficient and convenient manner.

The robots also can also identify invoices through optical character recognition (OCR) software, and automatically generate, upload, and submit files in reimbursement processes, which has brought significant productivity gains. As a result, Lenovo has achieved time savings of more than 90%, increased recognition accuracy rate by nearly 99%, and substantially improved verification quality and timeliness on processes.

Maximized data utilization

Enterprise automation technology has helped Lenovo to significantly improve its data accuracy, and reduce the propensity for erroneous data input. Since implementing the robots, Lenovo has not encountered any business errors in such areas, and efficiency has increased by five to eight times, ensuring the timeliness of tax declaration and payroll payment. This helped the HR team to save at least 6,000 hours per year, freeing them to do more value-added work.

Lenovo has been implementing UiPath to automate processes throughout our company, with the goal of gaining efficiencies and freeing up our employees time to focus on more rewarding types of work. The results so far have been very positive, including faster processes. Even better, our employees report an enhanced work experience, as now they can put their energy toward more engaging, higher-order activities. Our next step is looking at how we can bring this type of automation even further to other areas of Lenovo, as we continue our digital transformation journey, said Arthur Hu, SVP and Global CIO, Lenovo and CTO, Solutions and Services Group.

Integration of rich AI technologies in operations

By pairing UiPaths AI and automation technology, Lenovos robots can not only upload documents and data for specific tasks and sub-processes, but are able to automate full departmental processes, such as HR onboarding identification through self-developed OCR. This has allowed Lenovo to experience the benefits and opportunities of hyperautomation, freeing their human workforce to focus on more impactful tasks.

Chris Weber, Chief Business Officer at UiPath said, We are pleased to play a key role in Lenovos automation journey to increase efficiency and reduce complexity amidst the evolving needs and requirements of the organization. Through our collaboration, we hope to establish Lenovo as a Fully Automated Enterprise to support their business growth using our end-to-end automation platform.

The Smart and Connected Factory is Made Possible by Automation – IT News Africa

Posted: at 2:43 pm

Automation is complex especially in the manufacturing industry. Will the automation trend continue to accelerate? Infors Phil Lewis looks at some examples of smart connected factories.

The adoption of automation is one of the unexpected game-changers that the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated in manufacturing. The impact is nowhere more robust than on the shop floor.

Manufacturers placed their factories in less-developed countries with low labor costs. They employed, and are still stuck with, a geographic footprint for production that was driven by labor arbitrage around the globe, rather than by factors such as proximity to customers or ecological considerations. In fact, supply chains expanded with goods being produced farther and farther from the customers who buy them.

But the pandemic, and several other factors, changed all that. With the amount of disruption in the past two years, happening at an accelerating pace, the only constant now is change. The need to reduce delays and transport costs, as well as the pursuit of more sustainable production have led organisations to adjust their manufacturing footprints.

What does that mean? Since the 1980s, the global manufacturing business model has been centered around locating physical factories in countries where labour costs were cheap. That made sense when global supply chains and just in time sourcing were efficient and cost effective. Now, with shipping costs through the roof, and both containers and spots on ships hard to come by, companies are recognising the benefit of reduced transport and moving manufacturing closer to customers but that requires a rethink of how these factories operate.

Thankfully, the advancement of digitalisation and automation, robotics, machine learning, and advances in manufacturing techniques have increased manufacturers ability to create smaller, more automated and much smarter factories located in countries and cities closer to the customer. Reshoring and back-shoring is picking up steam as technology helps companies reduce labour costs via automation.

Essentially, automation is enabling manufacturers to build new smart factories in developed countries. Automation helps factories operate with far less unskilled (mainly human) resources. Less labour means less labour costs. Factories operating out of high-cost manufacturing hotspots such as Germany and Japan are largely automated for production and deploy far fewer employees, relying mostly on skilled engineers to maintain the machinery and the equipment. In addition, fully standardised, digital, and automated processes can be much quicker than processes that involve human interaction and manual tasks.

Increased automation makes locating facilities in high-cost but also highly educated countries a smart move. For example, a manufacturing execution system (MES) for the coordination of production machinery can automate the task of machine maintenance scheduling. But decisions still need to be made by people who are responsible for the outcome. These human decision points stand in the way of the complete lights-out factory, but not in the way of progress. The more automated the factory becomes, the more flexibly it can react to market changes.

As more and more manufacturers embrace automation, sustainable practices and the nearshoring of facilities, smart factories, which utilise not only automation but other Industry 4.0 technologies and processes, are becoming increasingly common. Infor has partnered with Deloitte to openThe Smart Factory @ Wichitaon the Innovation Campus of Wichita State University to help manufacturers explore use cases for new technologies and, ultimately, to transform their facilities into smart factories.

Many companies have already begun to integrate Industry 4.0 technologies, including artificial intelligence, into their business processes. As the worlds largest manufacturer of multidirectional forklifts, Infor customerCombilifthas 60,000 unique trucks in operation to meet each clients industry-specific needs. To help ensure that trucks, which need service, receive the right parts for the job, Combilift utilised Infors Coleman AI solution in combination with its Infor CloudSuite Industrial ERP system. This helped automate the process of generating the parts lists for specific jobs, improving the efficiency and accuracy of the recommendations, scaling the service quote process, reducing stress on staff and ensuring a first-time fix for clients.

Automation is complex, and theres a lot of work to do to lay the foundation at any facility. The most urgent question for most production companies is not how to implement the latest technology; most have pilot projects and implementations for data analytics, digital manufacturing technologies or artificial intelligence.

The key challenges are 1) how to bring all these different technologies together and 2) how to roll them out on the entire production environment. Replacing old technologies on a global scale often means a change in workflows and measurements. This change can be challenging.Standardising operations at all production sites, being able to monitor the same key performance indicators (KPIs) in the same way and automating well-defined processes across all operations are the first areas to address.

Global Robotic Process Automation Market Trends, Analysis and Forecasts Report 2022-2027 with Profiles of Appian, Blue Prism, CGI, Datamatics, NTT,…

Posted: at 2:43 pm

Dublin, Oct. 18, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The "Global Robotic Process Automation Market: Trends and Forecast (2022-2027)" report has been added to ResearchAndMarkets.com's offering.

The report provides an overview of the global RPA market and analyzes market trends. Using 2021 as the base year, the report provides market data for the forecast period 2022 through 2027 by making estimates with values derived from total revenues of prominent players. Revenue forecasts for this period are segmented based on solution, deployment, size of enterprise, industry and geography.

Organizations worldwide are realizing that RPA is capable of transforming their backend operations and procedures in an entirely new way with digital technology. It is a novel approach to automating corporate operations and procedures. It enables businesses to use software-driven robots, or bots, to automate routine, predetermined activities. It minimizes the human labor required for tiresome, repetitive jobs so that employees can concentrate on more important and more meaningful work.

RPA is a software technology that enables the creation, deployment and management of software robots that mimic human actions while dealing with digital systems and software. Software robots, like humans, can grasp what's on a screen, complete the correct keystrokes, navigate systems, discover and retrieve data, and perform a variety of defined operations. However, software robots can perform such tasks faster and more reliably than humans, without the need to take breaks.

Through RPA, chatbots and other forms of digital assistants, intelligent bots are proliferating throughout the data ecosystem. The range of jobs that these bots are capable of performing is growing. Many knowledge workers consider chatbots to be an outdated, template-based version of what bots can perform in light of the popularity of digital assistants like Siri and Alexa in both personal and professional contexts. Nevertheless, the number of uses for these linguistically skilled bots is growing, and now includes both internal and external processes.

RPA software solutions can be installed without having to make changes to the current system, saving time and money on the installation process. Due to the significant cost and overall impact of rethinking their legacy, poorly linked IT infrastructure, many system-intensive organizations are unable to optimize their operations. RPA solves this problem by acting as a human worker who builds a communication link between various IT systems. However, the risk of data security escalates when a company allows access to RPA for enterprise data over the cloud. A bot's poor design that unintentionally exposes sensitive data might have serious consequences.

Moreover, within these organizations, RPA can be used in multiple ways and across multiple processes. One new aspect of this is that the RPA solutions will also focus on external, customer-oriented processes in addition to internal processes. For instance, the classification of incoming email is one such area where smart robots are expected to offer huge productivity gains.

Intelligent process automation (IPA), a bridge between RPA and AI, primarily leverages machine learning (ML) and natural language processing (NLP) to tackle difficult business challenges and automate current manual processes with much higher accuracy and efficiency. By eliminating or moving monotonous and laborious tasks, these new advancements have enabled organizations to become even more profitable.

The report also identifies the major players in the RPA market, explains the major market drivers and current trends, and explores the competitive landscape. The report concludes with profiles of the major players in the global market.

MD-Staff Automations Increase Efficiency to Drive Tangible Outcomes, According to KLAS Research – Business Wire

Posted: at 2:43 pm

TEMECULA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Applied Statistics and Management Inc.s (ASM) flagship software MD-Staff increases efficiency to drive tangible outcomes for medical service offices, according to KLAS Research published in the Credentialing 2022 report. Yearly, KLAS Research interviews healthcare professionals about numerous areas connected to increasing efficiency and improvement on their vendors ability to provide guidance on best practices and the strengths and weaknesses in their credentialing solution. To assess how successfully vendors are keeping their promises, this report examines three key predictors of efficiency: the usage of automation, robust credentialing workflows, and vendor partnership/guidance.

ASM customers frequently report being fully paperless thanks to MD-Staffs electronic application tools, virtual committee capabilities, and robust connections with outside databases. Strong functionality and automations have helped organizationssignificantly reduce turnaround times, reported KLAS in the Credentialing 2022 report. ASM is ahead of the curve when it comes to providing guidance and best practices to help drive efficiency.

Participants report processing times for initial appointments for providers have been significantly reduced from 90 days to less than 30 days! Implementing automated workflow capabilities with reappointments and peer reviews has drastically cut time and errors in maintaining up-to-date records for patient safety.

Backed with over 40 years of innovation, MD-Staffs capabilities with documentation autofill, license verifications, and their Virtual Committee solution have streamlined the credentialing process with healthcare facilities saving time and expenditures. ASM continues to invest in streamlining the online processing of primary source verification for credentialing and onboarding providers. MD-Staffs automation eliminates the redundancy of routine tasks through customizable workflows performed with a click of a button. Automated primary source verifications, drag-and-drop privileging, and a source of truth database are why MD-Staff is top-ranked in credentialing and why five of the leading hospitals in the nation have selected MD-Staff as their credentialing solution!

Numerous spreadsheets, laborious data entry, and painstaking monitoring of multiple payer, state, and national databases have previously been necessary for credentialing management, resulting in considerable inefficiencies and costs, said Nick Phan, Executive Vice President of ASM. The KLAS Credentialing 2022 report affirms our belief that the combination of an innovative software and personalized service generates happy customers.
