BEACH PARADISE: Meg Collins and Tom Williams share their tips on how to undertake long-term travel.

If someone told you they travelled the world on $225 a month, you would probably raise an eyebrow and laugh them off as crazy.

But that is the reality for Australian Meg Collins and Brit Tom Williams, a couple who are seeing the wonders of the world with what most people would use to pay one week's rent.

The couple met in 2010 while working on cruise ships, before deciding to settle down in 2012 and save for a house.

"It was that whole 'we're 30 now we should probably settle down' thing," Williams said.

They soon realised that sounded like a horrible idea.

"Being in debt for 20-odd years and then when we have kids, she'll have to stop working and I'll have to get a different job other than being a musician and I'll hate whatever I'm doing," Williams said.

So in 2013, with A$35,000 (NZ$36,300) saved, they decided to flag the quarter-acre dream and go and see the world.

They left their jobs as a travel agent (Collins) and wedding singer (Williams) and set off.
