July 17, 2012 Earth Orbit_New international expedition arrives at ISS A Soyuz spacecraft carrying an international crew of Japanese Akihiko Hoshide, Russian Yury Malenchenko and American Sunita Williams successfully docked with the International Space Station in the early hours of Tuesday morning (3:40am GMT). A WOMAN took command of the International Space Station for only the second time as three US and Russian colleagues made a safe return from the orbiting space lab to the Kazakh steppe. The Soyuz TMA-04M capsule touched down with US astronaut Joe Acaba and Russian cosmonauts Gennady Padalka and Sergei Revin aboard, after deploying a huge white parachute and making a pin-point descent with helicopters tracking its progress. Two veteran cosmonauts sailed through a six-hour spacewalk outside the International Space Station yesterday to prepare the orbital outpost for a new module and better shield its living quarters against small meteorite and debris impacts, officials said.
